Phimosis is a condition of the penis where the tip is covered by the foreskin. It looks like the penis has rings around the tip. This case generally occurs in males for both children and adults.

There are two types of Phimosis.
Physiologic: It generally occurs in childhood and resolves as grows older.
Pathologic: It condition related to balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO)

Causes of Pathologic Phimosis: Poor hygiene: Though it is painful and irritating to clean the penis thoroughly, it is suggested to take additional care as it leads to infection. The following symptoms can be observed in a person with Phimosis:

Redness in the penis

Inflammation (swelling)

Sore feeling

Urinal pain

Pain during erection

If the Phimosis is not treated on time the patient has to face the following consequences:

Penile cancer

Increased swelling

Gangrene(death of tissue)

Loss of penis

Physiologic Phimosis found in children doesn’t require any treatment as it resolves with age.

Pathologic Phimosis is treated either by steroid creams or by surgeries depending upon the complication.
